Our Founder Our Founder

Rev.Fr.Joseph Louis Ravel is the Founder of the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. Born on 24th August 1824 at Valeren, France, in a family of landlords, Rev. Fr.Ravel grew up in an environment of profound mysticism and entered the Major Seminary of Foreign Missions. He was ordained as a Catholic Priest on 17th June 1848. Rev Fr.Ravel's compassion, unshakeable faith, nobility, and astuteness made him take up a missionary assignment with the M.E.P. Priests at Coimbatore, with Karumathampatti as its headquarters. To eradicate illiteracy, ignorance, intolerance and bias among the people, Fr.Ravel worked relentlessly categorizing himself with the people acquiring their idiom and civilization. A presbytery and a church at Wellington, the Church of Our Lady of Rosary at Karumathampatti are the fruits of his apostolic labour. Care for the sick, education of women and fighting the evils of castes were concerns close to his heart. These motivated him to begin the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Presentation of Mary in 1863. Savariammal, an uneducated village girl from Karumathampatti was the first postulant of this new congregation. Through her and many others like her Fr. Ravel succeeded in inculcating the great Law of Charity in the society. After 32 years of productive and altruistic service as a devoted servant of God this noble soul, commended his spirit in the hands of Our Lord on 31st January 1881, inspiring his followers: "To live as the living teaching of the great law of charity, which is the true foundation and beautiful summary of the Christian religion".

St.Joseph’s College for Women, affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore is a Catholic Minority Institution established in 2000 to empower the young women through quality education based on Christian Values. It is run by the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Coimbatore.

St.Joseph’s College aims to offer holistic education for the empowerment of rural women and the first generation learners by promoting academic excellence, employability and leadership qualities with a sense of social commitment.

The congenial environment of the campus, teaching and learning pedagogical standards, adequate infrastructure and vital amenities make the students feel that they are planted in an academic field where they can grow with Intellectual acumen, moral values and life skills which will transform their lives and create opportunities for professional career. Apart from the academics side, students are also provided with the best of opportunities to equip themselves to face the challenges of life successfully by taking part in various activities of the college.

It gives me immense pleasure to express my thoughts as the Principal of St.Joseph’s college for women, Tirupur offering services in the field of education. Our college is committed to imparting holistic education to women and to prepare them to face the challenges of society.

Education plays a noteworthy role in balancing the socio-economic status of the Country. Our nation needs nurture and care in the form of basic education to achieve a better quality of life. This licenses an all-round development of our citizens, which can be achieved by building strong foundations in education. 

College has high class infrastructure with well-equipped laboratories, class rooms, library, computer centre and cafeteria. With the support of devoted and hardworking faculty our students have achieved excellent grades. Our College provide high standards for achieving excellence by providing proper education, perfect guidance and concentrating overall development of students. Our students not only excel in the field of education but also become successful in their real life. The college gives due importance to co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Our aim is to impart the best knowledge possible and technical knowhow to our students which help them to become responsible and esteemed citizens. Paying special attention to disadvantaged groups like the poor and the minorities and provide financial help in the form of scholarships to deserving students from deprived sections of the society.
College also offering job oriented certificate courses, skill development programmes and special training and lectures for unceasing improvement of the students. We are committed to impart various skills and in constant touch with parents and keep informing them of their performance through effective correspondence and parents meeting.

We believe in a joyful experiential learning system wherein, each student is encouraged to participate wholeheartedly! We leave no stone unturned to offer multitudes of opportunities to our students; it is for them to make the most of it. Students should be motivated to grab every opportunity that comes their way which would not only help in their holistic growth but also strengthen their belief in teamwork, which is important in this fast-paced world. They need to understand the importance of emotional balance, critical thinking, and most importantly accepting failure graciously! It is our strife to endow them with all these qualities and more.
We believe in empowering our students in such a manner that they act as representatives of a meaningful and value-based society.

We have a team of magnificent faculty members who display boundless energy and intense commitment which keeps the ethos of our college shining brightly. We aim to not just impart knowledge to the students, but also to inculcate in them-wisdom, compassion and a humanitarian sprit. We have a multicultural student population, hence we teach students the importance of tolerance and respecting each other’s culture. Discipline, values and integrity are the very foundation of this college.
